What great new content have our current content partners added to the Content Hub?

Upskillist has added 139 new courses to the Content Hub. This collection of courses, each of which is 30 minutes in duration, ranges from hot topics in technology to how-to programming. Some example titles include E-commerce; Introduction to Prototyping; All about AI; The Evolution of Cryptocurrencies; Python Basics; and Advanced CSS.

Packt continues to grow their offering, adding 29 new in-depth courses to the Content Hub. With durations ranging from 4990 minutes (that’s three and a half days!) to 85 minutes, these courses provide up-to-date learning experiences with titles such as 101 UX Principles; CompTIA Security+ Certification SY0-601: The Total Course; Cyber Warfare – Truth, Tactics, and Strategies; and Job-Ready SQL in an Afternoon.

Marcom contributes a new series of six Safe Lifting courses tailored to different industries. The courses, each 30 minutes in duration, cover safe lifting in the following environments: Transportation and Warehouse; Office; Industrial; and Food Processing and Handling. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to take courses in our library on topics that I’m not familiar with.  This week I took a course of becoming a physiognomist.  Not sure what that is?  I wasn’t either! This three-part course by Coorpacademy provides guidance on how to better remember people’s names and faces.  This course provides the science behind memorizing faces and name and actionable ways to increase your ability to do so. Definitely worth checking out.

Located in Sydney's western suburbs and part of the Nirimba Collegiate, Seven Hills High School has worked with the Executive Leadership Team at EC by Go1 for the past year. Together, we have focussed on coaching, support and building bespoke online Professional Learning workshops to sit on their EC Premium platform.

In April 2022, CEO of EC by Go1, Dave Faulkner and Learning Designer, Glenn Solomons delivered a workshop at the Seven Hills High School Leadership Retreat. During the workshop, the leaders determined their strengths and areas of growth to better understand each other and work more collaboratively. The teams then developed a clear plan for implementing their 2022 goals. It was a success!

Midway through the year, The Seven Hills Learning Hub was launched on the platform with the executive team and included two one-hour workshops with their dedicated EC by Go1 Learning Designer, Leadership Consultant and Education Success Manager (ESM). During the workshops, the Seven Hills team learned the EC Premium Hub hacks and ‘how-to’s’, searched for appropriate content to assign to their team and even completed a 10-minute course!

As a boy, Ben performed at six Carols by Candlelight and went on to study voice at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

What a year 2022 has been! December is a great time to focus on personal and professional development and find ways to learn more about the things you are passionate about. I like to turn to Mind Tools to read articles or listen to podcasts about those topics that I’m interested in but don’t need a formal training.  This week I took some to listen about Cultural Competency. I enjoyed this conversation about cultural considerations and how to navigate cross cultural communication.  The conversation went into why cultural considerations are so important not only from a business standpoint but also when looking at how small the world is getting and how often we interact with people from different cultures. Not all of the information was new but it’s always good to hear different perspectives.

Amplify Music Education is democratising music education so that ALL teachers have the confidence to teach music in the primary classroom. Orenda Learning is a pioneer for service learning. They are delivering an online program called Be The Change, with a focus on global citizenship; their mission is to enable young people and communities to connect, collaborate and learn together. With a robust service curriculum, engaging lessons and a selection of carefully curated resources, this course will support teachers and young people to learn everything they need to know about engaging wholeheartedly in incredible service experiences.

Experimentary is a new way to experience science; it’s online and hands-on. Hosted by TV presenter and former CSIRO scientist, Dr Rob Bell, the Experimentary courses are filled with engaging teacher professional development, curriculum-based science experiments, lesson plans and reporting tools.

Whether it is developmental psychology for the early years, wellbeing science for educators, feeling more confident when supporting students who have experienced trauma, planning school initiatives, or future thought-thinking about technology’s impact on wellbeing, this playlist has something for you!

Located in West Wodonga on the border of Victoria and New South Wales, Victory Lutheran College was one of the finalists for Regional School of the Year in the 2022 Australian Education Excellence Awards. Supporting and investing in all of their staff (not just teaching staff) has been key in their Learning Hub setup, and they have had one of the most successful launches to date! 

Kicking things off with an exciting Pilot Group launch breakfast event with fresh coffee, some EC merch and excitement buzzing around the room, their Hub Champions explored their new Learning Hub. These Champions then helped to launch to the rest of the staff by sharing their favourite course at a full staff meeting (with nibbles of course!). Within the first 48 hours, VLC had a massive 70% staff uptake with over 700 minutes of learning completed and they plan to embed the Learning Hub into their school culture more formally next year. Excellence indeed!

November 13th is World Kindness Day, which seemed like a good opportunity to see what in our library can help our customers honor kindness. As a leader, I was drawn to the Small Acts of Kindness series by Mindscaling. Mindscaling is a great content partner that provides us thoughtful microlearning for leaders to help them navigate leadership and management.  Small Acts of Kindness by Mindscaling is made of four short modules, including Assume Best Intentions, Create Energy Around You, Kindness is the Killer App, and Nourish Your Team.  I particularly liked the module on assuming best intentions.  As a leader, I feel that this is one of the most important things I can bring to work with me every day.  By assuming that people are coming to the situation with the best intentions, it becomes easier to communicate and resolve issues, with an understanding that everyone is trying their best.

Yeronga State High School is located in Brisbane, Queensland. Employing 80 staff and enrolling 775 students, many of which were born overseas, Yeronga provides an international educational experience by offering high specialised English language and literacy immersion. Across the school, all teachers actively access their EC Premium Learning Hub to enter a wide range of courses for their professional development, with a particular focus on leadership, global competence and wellbeing.

Staff are accessing courses that have been assigned to them by their administrator via the Groups functionality, as well as by individually searching for the content that specific to their own needs. In the short time that they have had access to our Learning Hub, a total of 33 courses have been completed by staff. Very impressive!

As a learning designer Dani works with you to design and deliver your professional learning programs, with a particular focus on quality teaching practice. Dani brings a decade of school teacher and leadership experience to the EC team, with a particular depth in the public sector. She has been a program consultant on learning projects for clients including the Academy (VIC), Professional Learning Institute (TAS) and with schools across NSW.

Fun fact about Dani: She has listened to the song ‘You Can Call Me Al’ at least once a day for the last 18 months.

The EC Premium Content Insider - October 2022 edition

For most of us, days are busy and it can be hard to sneak learning in.  This past month, I have been focusing on content that is in different formats, allowing me to learn while I do other things.  I’ve recently taken a few courses from AssembleYou. Most of AssembleYou’s courses are audio-driven, but also often include additional documents, like transcripts and infographics, as well as a final quiz, to help create a more formal learning experience. This week I listed to Why Diverse Businesses are Winning.  This 15-minute course talked about how diverse teams helps avoid groupthink and actually catch more errors because they focus more on facts.  This was a great reminder on why it’s important to make a conscious effort to build diverse teams and set everyone up for success.  AssembleYou’s content is a great option if you are interested in learning more on your commute or walking your dog.

HundrED is a global education non profit that advocates for a child-centric approach to teaching and personalised, passion-based learning. They believe that visionary leadership at every level of the education system is essential. HundrED have released a series of videos from influential educational figures including Sir Ken Robinson, Andy Hargreaves and Sugata Mitra covering topics from assessment to the learning environment.

Adam Voigt, the founder of Real Schools has developed a series of videos for leaders to insight a positive culture within their school setting. Adam’s stories and genuine nature will surely inspire you to transform and enhance your school culture through a focus on what really counts. 

MEG Languages focusses on the practical steps schools can take to become Globally Competent, to develop Global Citizens and to offer engaging Global Education. MEG has released two engaging courses on global competency and leaders can utilise the MEG whole school framework within the course to develop Globally Competent staff and students.

Nicole Dyson at Future Anything has built a ‘future ready’ framework which supports youth in schools to turn their passions into innovative ideas. She is currently creating a course for teachers to lead authentic learning experiences that are Australian Curriculum aligned and connects students to the real world.

Sisters Bianca and Kritz at The Big Sister Experience offer school workshops and professional development for teachers with the goal of becoming the lead providers of life-education and wellbeing support pre-teen and teen girls. Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people in under-resourced communities across NSW. In their two upcoming professional development courses, they will uncover practical and versatile techniques for implementing effective creativity in the classroom and strategies to engage disengaged learners.

Located just above the Central Coast in NSW, Tuggerah Lakes Berkeley Vale Campus is a 7-10 school which has partnered with EC for four years. EC supports several teams within the school, focussing on classroom collaboration, differentiation of student learning, school attendance and supporting Aboriginal education through cultural awareness and data insights. 

The co-creation of ‘The Drop’ has been one of the major successes of the partnership. The Drop is a bus that is used to take students to and from school, and it has been designed to be an engaging, exciting and supportive journey for students with the aim of improving attendance across the school.

With 100 staff online and an outstanding engagement rate of 83% so far into their first month of launch on EC Premium, we are ecstatic to have this amazing and forward-thinking school on our platform!

Gabbi brings years of education campaign and communications experience to the EC team. She has served as the campaign manager of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Junior, she has managed a range of future-focussed education initiatives and now works to support schools to succeed with the EC Premium platform. Gabbi holds multiple degrees with distinction across International Studies, Communications and Media from the University of New South Wales and Madrid’s Universidad Carlos III. Around the world, September is recognized as Mental Health Awareness or Suicide Prevention Month. We have several providers who create courses around these topics. As a manager, I wanted to find a course that would help me better support my employees who may be struggling with their mental health. I spent some time taking Mental Health Awareness for Managers by The Mental Health Project. This course offered a great overview of mental health and things I can do as a manager to help my employees. Even for experienced managers, this course is a great refresher on how to support our employees.
